Built Upon, an exhibition made during Ecocity Abu Dhabi 2015, began two years earlier with the idea of rethinking how homes are constructed and inhabited in the Arabian Peninsula. This exhibition shows the intermediate results of ongoing research into typology, scale, materials, climate, landscape and culture through a design proposal for a simple family dwelling; the House in Hatta. It is an attempt to develop a contemporary regional model that uses indigenous techniques of building, passive climate control and a culturally appropriate arrangement of space.

As a collaboration between Cultural Engineering in Dubai and Case Design, the material exhibited here is compiled from ongoing research conducted throughout the design process. It demonstrates the journey of the House in Hatta.
